The Talking Assistant Headset: A Novel Terminal for Ubiquitous Computing

چکیده
Research on ubiquitous computing (UC) infrastructures at the Telecooperation Group emphasizes ears-and-mouth devices for nomadic users. In this context, the following document describes the prototype of such a device. This voicecentric headset features a Bluetooth radio for wireless network connectivity and a combination of sensors to gather context information, such as the location of the mobile user in space and the head orientation. The Talking Assistant headset targets tour, exhibition, and museum guidance as an initial application domain. A corresponding demonstrator testbed has been built in order to evaluate the functionality of the device, context model, and software architecture. The Talking Assistant is also a key element of the MUNDO ubiquitous computing infrastructure which will be briefly sketched at the end. Technical Report TK-02/02, Technische Universität Darmstadt, 1. متن کاملTalking Assistant: a Smart Digital Identity for Ubiquitous Computing
A predominant issue in a ubiquitous computing world is that of future personal devices in the postPC era. In this paper we present the Talking Assistant (TA), a prototype device we have developed to serve as a personal device. The main function of the Talking Assistant is to serve as the user’s digital identity. In addition, the TA features local processing and storage, wireless networking capa...

In this video paper we present the Talking Assistant and the STAIRS project, and how the two interact. The Talking Assistant is a device for interacting in ubiquitous computing environments. It features sensors, wireless communications and simple local speech recognition. The STAIRS project concerns browsing of structured hypertext documents in audio. One key feature of STAIRS is, that beside s...

Automated teller machines (ATMs) are a classic example of ubiquitous computing as they pervade our everyday life and, for many, are typical artifacts of convenient, modern living. More important, most people are unaware that in using an ATM they are connected via a computer to a powerful network. Through our research reported within this article, we examine the user acceptance and usability asp...
متن کاملMicrophone Array Driven Speech Recognition: Influence of Localization on the Word Error Rate
Interest within the automatic speech recognition research community has recently focused on the recognition of speech where the microphone is located in the medium field, rather than being mounted on a headset and positioned next to the speakers mouth to realize the long-term goal of ubiquitous computing. This is a natural application for beamforming techniques using a microphone array. A cruci...
